How to Spot Clues Indicating a Bad Neighborhood?

How To Know What's My Home Worth Good Neighborhood Vs Bad

The perception of a beginner in real estate transactions is that it is better to buy the best house in a poorly rated neighborhood, than to buy the worst house in a better rated neighborhood. However, real estate experts warn that this is a trap that buyers often fall into, you need to consider whats my home worth when in the market for a new home.

From an investment point of view, if you choose to buy the worst home in a good neighborhood, there is a high chance that the value of the property will increase with that of the neighborhood. Moreover, if you can purchase even the cheapest house in a good neighborhood, you probably can also afford some extra money to invest in that home and to improve it, which, again, will increase the value of the property.

On the other hand, if you buy the best house in a poorly rated neighborhood, experts say that you have very low chances to increase its value.

That is why it is important to spot clues indicating a bad neighborhood. These may include lack of local transportation options, uncivilized neighbors, the existence of dilapidated or abandoned buildings, street garbage, thick graffiti, high unemployment rate, high crime rate, unattended kids and groups of idle teenagers, noise late at night, irregular police presence and so on.
